I first "met" him when I sent in a survey for our own TCKs and their educational process in preparation for his first International Conference on Missionary Kids in Manila, Philipipinesin 1984. AT that point I was doing my own journaling trying to understand my own story better at the age of 39. His receptivity to my story, his invitation to come to that ICMK and to present a plenary at the second one in Quito, Ecuador where I also met Norma McCaig and learned the issues we were discussing were truly cross=sector...what can I say? My life took a different course after that. Writing the TCK book with him forced me to continue looking more deeply into what effects a globaly childhood had on me and many others...and to learn to live in the "all of the above" spaces of my life..not being forced to choose one or the other. Thank you Dave. Thank you Betty Lou for all the meals you prepared in the times I came to visit you and work on the book with DAve...and for all the times you served us all by blessing him on his journeys out to the world. Thanks to your family as well. Love and remembrances to all. Later I enjoyed opportunities to work alongside him in the 1990s and early 2000s. I continue to personally encounter and process at deeper levels insights he shared verbally and in "writing. "The Transition Experience" and "RAFT" models have informed my professional work and practically helped our whole family through its many transitions. His wisdom continues to enlighten and transform! Dave’s loving and inclusive manner touched everyone he met, young and old, across the globe.

We miss you, Dave, your keen insights, deep faith in God, and warm embrace. Betty Lou and family, you are in our thoughts and our prayers. I was thumbing through the later version of Dave Pollock’s book on TCKS last week, where it talks about his graduation to heaven… he passed away on my birthday, so I never forget him. After reading their book, I felt “normal” for the first time in my life, no kidding… I finally figured out who I was and what had happened to me! I was a TCK! I made my daughter read it as a teenager and she went on to do her master’s thesis about it.. thanks for including us, Esly CarvalhoEsly Carvalhonoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1105370806558579704.post-2860273741133565172014-04-09T19:44:02.590+01:002014-04-09T19:44:02.590+01:00It was very special working closely with Dave from...It was very special working closely with Dave from 1998-2004, helping to develop the member care field internationally with many folks.
